From the ancient kingdom of Cush to modern times, from the great Queen Nefertiti to Queen Cleopatra, from Leo Africanus to Ibn Battuta, Shea and its benefits have been an integral part of African history.

Dear parents, teachers, organizations,

SaWaShea, as a knowledge sharing platform, offers a unique opportunity to learn about Shea, the “Green Gold of Africa”, through presentations and/or workshops at your school, organization or place of your choice. Through the below four programs offered, the participants do not only have the opportunity to learn about Shea, but also to:

o Discover African history and geography, with a focus on West Africa
o Open themselves to new cultures
o Exchange and interact with each-other
o Be exposed to new media skills

Green gold presentation

For a duration of 2 hours, the SaWaShea team will give a presentation on Shea, sharing information about the tree, its geographical coverage and history, its products (Shea butter notably) and usages. Videos, images and Shea products are presented to the participants. This interactive presentation gives an opportunity to the participants to realise the importance and benefits of Shea from the cultural, social and environmental points of view.

Through the presentation, the participants have the opportunity to learn also about African history, especially West Africa.

Green gold radio

During two days, the participants will produce a radio program with focus on Shea. An exciting radio show will be created and broadcasted on Radio Afrika International (RAI). In the morning of the first day, SaWaShea team will give a presentation on Shea, followed by a general introduction on radio programming by the RAI team. In the afternoon, the participants, supervised by the teacher/organization manager, start to research about the topic. 

In the morning of the second day, a hands-on radio programming introduction is given by the RAI team at the ORF studio in Vienna, Austria. The show is then produced under the general supervision of the SaWaShea team and the technical supervision of the Radio Afrika TV team.

During two days the participants produce a radio/television programme with the focus on Shea. An exciting TV show will be produced and broadcast on Afrika TV. In the morning of the first day the SaWaShea team will give a presentation on Shea, followed by a general introduction to TV programming by the Radio Afrika TV (RATV) team. In the afternoon the participants will start researching the topic under the guidance of the teacher / organisation manager.

In the morning of the second day, the RATV team will give a practical introduction to radio and television programming at the OKTO TV studio in Vienna. The show is then produced under the general supervision of the SaWaShea team and the technical supervision of the RATV team.
